Nonet.
Tweet! Tweet! Look – There is a little bird.
Flowers are shaking off the dew.
A squirrel scurries by us.
The sun breaks the darkness.
This is the morning
That we have made;
Rejoice, you,
and be
glad!
—–
Who is your God, and where is he?

Is he on the land, in dark woods and open fields,
Or under it, roaming the empty hills where the ghosts moan?
Is he in the water, flowing in sweet rivers and salty seas,
Or in the fire, burning with the passion of a hundred hearts?
Is he in the air, riding on the storms,
Or above it, in the nothingness where the stars burn?
Is he a father, with sons and daughters?
Does he walk among us, one with us,
Or does he make his home in a far-away place?
Does he reach out and run his fingers through the fibers of your life,
Or do we have to walk the long paths to bring ourselves closer to him?

A nonet is a nine-lined poem that has 9 syllables in the first line, 8 in the second, and so on down to a last line of 1 syllable. Most are rhymed; this one is obviously not.
